A hydraulic motor is a special converter of fluid pressure into mechanical energy, which transfers it to an output shaft. Then, the shaft drives the necessary mechanisms and assemblies.
There are following types of hydraulic motors (according to the angle between the axes of the block and the piston):
- axial-piston hydraulic motors.
The efficiency of gear and plate-type hydraulic motors is lower than axial-piston motors efficiency. However, the axial-piston models are not a perfect option when the viscosity of the liquid rises.
In some cases, it is preferable to buy a hydraulic motor than an electric analog, because Hydraulic motors have several advantages:
- sufficient range of frequency control;
- fast acceleration;
- resistance to frequent switching;
- more compact size and relatively small weight;
The usage of hydraulic motors
Axial-piston hydraulic motors are used in self-propelled machines (excavators, bulldozers). Also, hydraulic motors are widely used in forklift trucks, dump trucks, specialized utility vehicles. When the pressure is low or medium in hydraulic system of the vehicle, the usage of gear pumps is common.
